Human Trafficking
Social problems are highly caused by the improper administration of laws, distribution of wealth, opportunities and privileges in a society. Social justice advocates for all persons irrespective of origin, gender, possessions, race and religion to be treated equally and without compromise. Public policies are expected to solve problems efficiently, serve justice, support governmental institutions and policies and support active citizenship. However, public policies at both the local state and national level may contribute to social problems. Some of these rules impose restrictions on the freedom needed by individuals hence limiting the aspect of fairness and equality in the society (Bales, p. 222). This paper talks about the issue of human trafficking in the society. This illegal act is still upheld in various nations despite its inhumane nature.
Modern-day trafficking is almost the same as the slavery practiced on the past years. In the modern society human trafficking comes in many forms. People are abducted and taken to other foreign countries by force, with the denial of their freedom and right to movement. This included laboring human beings as concubines, carpet slaves or cane cutters are forms of exercising this inhuman act. Major bodies have been formed to object and advocate against this social issue in many societies and countries. The issue of human trafficking remains a major problem in this society. The history of human trafficking spans from ancient times to the present day. Human trafficking is not a recent practice, but has been in existence since the earlier periods. The victims of human trafficking were taken as slaves in other countries, regarded as inferior beings with no rights and are treated with denial while at the same time they have no right to freedom and their expression.
Societal norms do not support the practice of human trafficking to a large range. Effects that come along with this practice are highly condemned. Some of the effects of slavery include Separation of young children from their parents, separation of wives from their husbands and destruction of families. In the world today, this practice has its effects still felt among the populations. Gang violence, teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, school drop outs and high crime levels faced the black people and in fact, negative ramifications of human trafficking which was mostly felt by the black people. The families affected were the victims of heart associated deaths, single parent homicides and also drug related homicides. Human trafficking has induced feelings of fear and has brought an effect of reduced manpower in various areas. Labor supply is a crucial factor towards ensuring continuous production processes and high levels of income to raise standards of living for the people (Bourne, 2007, p. 78). A lot of captives died. Loss of lives brought about bitterness among several individuals. Most of the human rights bodies advocate for respect of human rights and are always against this issue.
Major effects of trafficking are mostly felt in the long run where nations economic situations suffer and the victims are normally the citizens. Trafficking acts are unethical to comply with. The effects of trafficking can thus be reduced through cooperation among individuals and all citizens especially to end this societal problem. Appreciation of other people and their abilities is an important step towards ending the malicious practice. Most communities exchange their cultures and ways of life, especially where customs and traditions differ among communities and interaction plays an important role towards bringing people of different backgrounds together. Harmony has coexisted in different communities, and most communities have learned to appreciate other people’s ways of life, however different they are from their own customs and traditions. In the modern world, interaction of different cultures has led to increased trade, civilization and high levels of social interaction to the benefit of citizens (DeGruy, 2005, p. 39). Peace and harmony is crucial in ensuring the stability as well as continued positive growth of nations worldwide. It is important to realize the effects that come along with participating in human trafficking.
The abuse of women, children and minority groups in the society and nations as a whole should be abolished and highly condemned. It is important to practice equality in all regions to bring about peace, harmony and national development. Deprivation of other people’s rights in order to benefit in one way or another is an illegal act and in my opinion laws should be enacted to stand for minority groups while action should be taken on that encouraging the issue without bearing in mind its results. In the society, women and children are mostly abused. This is an inhumane act as all individuals deserve to be treated with the same level of humanity, respect and equality. With the practice of human trafficking, children will not be accorded the right to education which they deserve. The belief that a woman should be treated as a child is common and this virtue is legally and morally unacceptable. All citizens have a right to choose what they want for their lives. Choose between what is right and what is wrong and decide on what to do or not in the society. Education is a basic needs for all children. Power and knowledge are believed to be acquired through education. Human trafficking should therefore be strongly condemned as no positive values are acquired from its practice.
Human trafficking may come in many different ways. Capturing people to work in firms, forcing children to work instead of going to school and keeping servants in households to perform delegated tasks. The victims in most cases are taken from less privileged families, made to work under hard conditions with denial of food, wages and any form of comfort (Maine, 2006, p. 192). Such situations were highly experiences in the pre-colonial period and are still in practice in various societies today.
It is evident that unless dysfunctional behaviors are clearly addressed among our communities, we will never progress and leave behind the issues which are deeply rooted within our collective awareness. If we can be able to work diligently have the objective of ensuring that the effects trafficking has had on us are completely reversed. This would be setting a strong foundation for the success of the coming generations and will enable them to lead productive and honest lives without the barriers of racism, discrimination in any way. Moving towards the right direction and building a stable complete functional community in the world will be noted only if the negative effects of slavery are done away will as soon as possible.
